Delay, Again

Jakarta, December 24th 2010

Due to the incident with Blue Bird Taxi, I was nearly late for my flight. I requested my driver, another Blue Bird Taxi, to speed up. Thus, for the first time in my life I experienced the speed censor beeping. I noticed that it beeps when the speed goes over 110 km/hour. Our max was 125 km/hour when we were on toll road.

The driver turned to me, "Aren't you scared?"

"No. Not at all. Your driving is steady and safe." I just didn't tell him that I actually enjoyed the ride. It felt like a computer racing game. I was afraid he would laugh at me if I said so.

"You can feel it?" asked the driver again.

"Sure, I can," I answered. "In the previous time, with Blue Bird also, I had warned a driver to slow down although he was still driving below 100 km/hour, because I felt unsteadiness."

If only I had never experienced Blue Bird arriving late with a thousand excuses, and worst, the incident just an hour ago, I would have given 2 thumbs up for Blue Bird.

I arrived at Soekarno Hatta Airport one and a half hour before the flight. I ran inside to check in and then to claim my NPWP. In front of me was a lady trying hard to negotiate something with the officer. I became impatient. Luckily she finally gave up and proceeded as the officer told her. Next to her stood a European guy.

Wiwik texted me telling that she was done with check in and was having dinner outside. I was welcomed to join, she wrote. I said thank you to her invitation, but didn't want to challenge my heart beat for a second time. Although the taxi ride with the beeping speed censor was fun, I wouldn't forgive myself if I missed my flight whereas I was already in the airport.

I proceeded to the immigration counter. There was a long queue at all counters for Indonesians. Yeah, it's holiday season. While standing in line, I heard a beautiful kolintang instrumental music. If I could know the title of the album, I would search for the CD, I said to myself.

Suddenly when I got closed to the immigration booth, I realized that it was a life music right behind the immigration counter!

You know what? They played Christmas songs also with this traditional music instrument. How cool!
I was transfixed. I forgot about my flight.
If only everytime I go abroad, Indonesia sees me off with such a performance...

I recorded part of it with my Nokia N86 8 MP. Please enjoy ;-)

How terribly was I disappointed when on the entrance door to the waiting room I saw this!

If I knew the flight was delayed, I would have taken more time at the kolintang performance!
We didn't know at all that the flight was delayed. We didn't get any message from Air Asia. Worse, the screen in front of the gate entrance stated that my flight to Kuala Lumpur, AK 389, was 20:30 as scheduled! Why wasn't it updated? This not my first experienced that Soekarno Hatta Airport didn't care to update their screen information.

I asked permission for going out the waiting room and was granted so. I checked out the screen in the hall. It wasn't updated either!

I think Soekarno Hatta Airport should better use a white board for writing the flight schedules. It might be easier to update in case of any delay. You don't need to be computer literate. Just use your handkerchief and wipe out that irrelevant time schedule. But still... you need to be concerned. It seemed that nobody in the airport was.

"Delay ETD 21:00" was it written on that paper announcement. ETD, Estimated Time of Departure. It seemed that Air Asia made an imprecise estimation, again. Our AK 389 finally took off at 21:35. Thus, we landed on Kuala Lumpur on December 25th. Great!
