Hopping On and Off in KL

December 25-27th 2010

Thanks to the taxi driver form KL Bird Park which I had told about in previous post here, I learnt about "KL Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour Bus". I saw it mentioned in KL Bird Park's brochure but didn't really understood until this taxi driver informed me. It's a tourist bus which you can get on and off as many times in a period of 24 hours by purchasing only 1 ticket.

You'll just have to show your ticket before getting on the bus.

There are 2 choices of ticket. One valid for 24 hours and another valid for 48 hours. The first bus leaves at 8:30AM and the last one at 8:30PM. The date of purchased will be stamped on top of the ticket and the time will be marked below. The blocks on the left is the hour and the blocks on the right is the minute. For example, you purchase the ticket at 9:40, the number "9" on the left and the number "40" on the right will be crossed. So if you've bought a 24-hour ticket at 9:40AM, you can use your ticket until 9:40AM the next day.

You can get on and off the bus at any stop with this sign. "14" in this photo is the number of the bus stop.

The bus interval is to be said 30 minutes. However, through our 3 days of experience, 30 minutes is not for sure. Mostly it takes longer. Nevertheless, if you are new to Kuala Lumpur and have many places to visit, using this bus will save you a lot of money. You also don't need to worry the driver would cheat on you by taking you round and round and thus making you have to pay more like some taxi drivers might do.

There are in total 22 stops along the route as shown on this map. Everytime the bus is about to stop, you will hear a brief explanation about the coming attraction. A linguaphone with 9 languages is provided on every seat. But, I've never actually tested them. If you understand English, you won't need them.

Once you get on the bus and pay, you'll get a brochure like this. The above map is inside it. This brochure has a list of hotels and major attractions along the route. It tells you on which number you should stop.

Being 60% covered with glass like this, you are sure to enjoy a broad view along the hilly roads of Kuala Lumpur.

You can easily point and shoot like this from inside the bus.

If you are lucky, you get a bus with an open deck this.

It so a pity that I had already put my SLR camera into my backpack. I hadn't time to take it out and capture this sunset view. But still fortunate to have a Nokia N86 always handy in my handbag. Here it is.
